DESCRIPTION: This is an early 20th Century piece. It is made of gilding metal (red brass), sand cast, with latitude and longitude lines on globe and broad winged eagle. There is a prong on the eagle's head to keep it upright on the cap. The nut on the stud has been purposely locked by crushing the threads above it. Has never been polished. This is a very early piece and very scarce.
(I can find no good reference on EGA's and there is no consensus among collectors about pre-Vietnam types. The existing Marine Museum book is near useless for identification of particular pieces.)
